We're back with another iteration of our successful DELTA Module 1 and Module 3 prep courses. The DELTA is a teaching game-changer: it will improve your overall performance as a teaching practitioner, and provide a turbo boost to your teaching career, helping you to move into more prestigious teaching roles, teacher training, or ELT management.

Delta Module 1
The DELTA qualification aims to develop our practice, our thinking, our knowledge and our awareness of all things English Language Teaching and Learning.
Module 1 aims at delving into the theory, knowledge and practice related to good teaching practice. This module is considered to be an excellent foundation for the other two modules (M2 which is about practical teaching and M3 about course design or ELT management).
The aims of the course are two-fold. At the end of the course we hope that participants will have developed their general knowledge of ELT, but also that they will feel more prepared to take the examination. The exam (2 papers of 90 min each) is a proficiency exam and can test anything related to ELT learning and teaching, so a solid understanding of learning theory, language analysis, teaching skills and systems, etc. is required to pass the course successfully. For this reason one cannot really state what exactly needs to be read, or what should be studied, which means that candidates should consider that this course and the preparation for the exam will take a considerable amount of effort, focus and time.
The course will contain one weekly input sessions (2 hours+), one workshop-style sessions (1 hour), plus online terminology study, mini project work done in groups, and of course, a lot of reading and self-study. There will also be a significant amount of exam-focused preparation in the form of tasks to complete.

Delta Module 3
The module is assessed by means of an Extended Assignment (4,000-4,500 words) in which you carry out an independent investigation leading to the design of a course program related to your chosen specialist area. You do not have to teach the course, only to design a course based on needs analysis and diagnostic assessment that you carry out with a specific group of learners. However, conducting needs analysis, be it with 1:1 students, or groups of teachers, or a group of young learners generally requires repeated meetings and observations, so regular access to your students is important.
Option 1 Extending Practice and ELT Specialism
You must select one of the following specialisms:
Business English
Teaching young learners/young adults (specified age group required with a 5-year range e.g. 8–13, 14–19)
English for Special Purposes
English for Academic Purposes
Teaching examination classes
Teaching one-to-one
ESOL learners with literacy needs
CLIL/Embedded ESOL (teaching English through subject/ work-based learning) (CLIL)
Teaching monolingual classes
Teaching multilingual classes
Teaching in an English-speaking environment
Teaching in a non-English-speaking environment
Teaching learners online/through distance/blended learning
Teaching English to learners with special requirements e.g. visual/ hearing impairment, dyslexia, ASD
Language development for teachers
Language support (e.g. on mainstream teaching programmes, specialist skills support, such as supporting writing needs)
For any specialism you choose it is important that you already have some experience in the area. You may choose to narrow down the selected specialism in order to research a specific aspect in appropriate depth, e.g. ‘ESP’ may be narrowed down to Teaching communication skills to doctors working in a general hospital; Teaching Young Learners can be narrowed down to Designing Course Programs for 11–12 year old learners in Spain; Teaching Monolingual Learners can be linked to a specific context, e.g. Teaching Monolingual Learners in Saudi Arabia; Teaching IELTS may be the focus of the specialism or may be narrowed down to Preparing Learners for IELTS Reading Skills tests. However, you should not narrow the focus to a discrete sub-skill such as reading for gist or a discrete area of lexis such as teaching collocations.
