Testimonial: The How to Teach IELTS Course Changed my Approach to Teaching

Li Yang is from China. She took the 11-week fully online How to Teach IELTS course with English for Africa in the fall of 2025. Below is her testimonial.

"The How to Teach  IELTS  Course  was great—well-structured with self-study, live sessions, and micro-teaching.

Self-study covered the exam basics (L, R, W, S) and, more usefully, common student problems and how we, as teachers, can solve them. The live sessions focused on teaching methods and got us actively discussing.

But the real gem was micro-teaching. Teaching in a simulated class was super valuable. Tutor Aysel gave patient, step-by-step feedback, reminding us to keep students engaged. By teaching and observing others, I learned to design lessons and adapt on the fly.

Most importantly, my teaching mindset shifted. Moving from traditional, teacher-centered lectures to interactive methods like discussions and brainstorming really boosted my own motivation—and showed me how to boost my students'. I started quiet, struggling with terminology and accents, but by keeping up with prep and review, I caught up quickly.
